Okanogan County landowners have the power to reduce risks to homes and property from catastrophic wildfire. The Okanogan Conservation District can help you and your neighbors become Firewise...it takes as little as one hour to receive a free risk assessment of your site. This assessment will provide you with a list of practical ways to lessen your risk from fire. 

We also offer Firewise Workshops across Okanogan County to homeowners associations, community groups, real estate agencies, and others. 

It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when, especially if your home is in the Wildland/Urban Interface (WUI).

Fire Resistant Construction: A technical workshop for contractors, designers, architects, and anyone planning to build their own home.

This workshop will cover the latest research into how homes ignite in wildfires, and the techniques and products that can increase a home's chance of survival.

		When a severe wildfire spreads, it can quickly expose dozens - sometimes hundreds - of homes to fire simultaneously. In many situations, firefighters do not have the resources to defend every home.  Homeowners who take proactive steps to reduce the likelihood of their home igniting during a wildfire have a far greater chance of having their homes survive.
		When communities get together to implement Firewise techniques, the benefits increase for everyone. Your local fire district will really appreciate your efforts too!  A Firewise yard or neighborhood doesn't mean a complete lack of trees and vegetation...there are many ways to keep a beautiful landscape around your home while also reducing your risks of home ignition.
